You may have heard about infrared saunas and their abilities for whole body detoxification, weight loss, muscle recovery, cognitive enhancement, pain reduction, and much more. But are these infrared sauna blanket claims actually backed up and without any danger? Read below to find out more information you NEED to know!
How Far Infrared Sauna Blankets Work
Remember the electromagnetic spectrum from physics class in high school, the pure far infrared thermal radiation that comes from a sauna blanket is a part of this electromagnetic spectrum that our eyes can't see but our body perceives as radiant heat.
The physical fabrics of a sauna blanket have imprinted pure far infrared ceramic nanoparticles that give a therapeutic benefit to our body. Our skin thermoreceptors perceive this pure far infrared thermal radiation and absorb this energy as well as give emit back this absorbed energy. The higher dose sauna blanket I have experienced with using only takes anout 10 minutes to heat up as perceived by my skin thermoreceptors. The lasting effects of using a sauna last many hours once you‘re done.
The Effects Of Far Infrared Sauna Use
The effects of sauna use come down to the bonds of our cells and mitochondrial metabolism. This is affecting our body's water molecules and their interactions. Following a far infrared sauna, our skin's temperature is higher which creates a cascade of biological effects that enhance nitric oxide signaling which is important for blood vessel health. Collagen content is enhanced following exposure to a sauna and wound healing recovery is enhanced which is a reason medical facilities have sauna therapy as a service.
Enhanced blood circulation to ischemic (lack of blood flow) body regions was enhanced following sauna therapy.
A study on far-infared sauna use in mice showed decreases in mice body weight and enhanced brain-derived neurotrophic factor protein in certain brain regions. Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is important for the learning and memory of neurons. As BDNF stimulates and controls the growth of new neurons and neural stem cells and far infrared sauna use is shown to enhance BDNF.
Studies have shown sauna use to improve left-ventricular ejection fraction which is a key function of the longevity of our heart muscle.
